Ferrotype Collective is partnering with Habitat for Humanity GTA with a goal of raising $100,000 in support of Black families in the GTA who are living in unhealthy, unsafe, overcrowded, and unaffordable homes.
The homeownership rate among the Black community in Canada is the lowest of any racialized group. As a result, Habitat for Humanity GTA has partnered with BlackNorth and Dream Legacy to deliver the Homeownership Bridge Program. This program is designed as both a symbolic and a practical approach to mobilize all levels of society in working together to eliminate systemic racism. This is an affordable housing solution that responds to economic and racial inclusion problems. By 2027, we aim to give a hand-up to 200 Black Families across the GTA.
We believe that everyone deserves a safe and decent place to live – and when more members of our community have a solid home base, they can build equity to start businesses, support their children’s post-secondary education and provide for their retirement. The Habitat for Humanity proven model builds strength, stability, and financial independence through affordable homeownership. This model empowers working families to thrive and to start to build generational wealth, while the rental units they vacate create a ripple effect of new affordable housing opportunities all the way across the housing continuum.
